Rinajoyce Fernandez Abril-Walker, CNM, IBCLC
Rinajoyce (“Rina”) grew up in California before moving to Texas in 1996 when her father retired from the Navy. She graduated with honors from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2008 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. From there, Rina has worked as a Registered Nurse in Women’s and Children’s Services including Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery, and NICU.
Her love of travel allowed her to work as a travel Registered Nurse in Boston, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Portland, Oregon. She returned back to Texas to complete her Master’s Degree in Nurse-Midwifery in 2014 from Frontier Nursing University.
Rina has a special place in her midwifery heart for out of hospital births, having had an unmedicated waterbirth with her first child at Bay Area Birth Center in Pasadena, Texas and her second and third children at home among her former preceptor midwives and later coworkers. Rina has attended births at home, birth centers and hospitals. She prefers working in hospitals to help bring the low intervention, out of hospital, natural childbirth experience she experienced herself to the hospital setting. Rina is passionate about supporting women in however they choose to labor and give birth in a loving, supportive and safe environment.
She is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and takes great joy in helping families achieve their breastfeeding/pumping goals. Rina has a combined total of 7+ years breastfeeding/pumping for her three children.
She is relocated from Nacogdoches, TX and is married to her college sweetheart Clinton. They have three children Colin, Rosaline and Lillian. Outside of work, she enjoys learning Spanish, spending time with her close-knit family and trying new foods.
