Stephanie Schaefer, MD

Dr. Stephanie L. Schaefer thoroughly enjoys practicing both obstetrics and gynecology. From adolescence through menopause and beyond, she is dedicated to helping women achieve their fullest potential. As well as to fulfill their personalized vision of family through obstetrical care, fertility needs, and family planning/ contraception.
She is also skilled in treating many gynecologic concerns. Some of these include abnormal vaginal bleeding, painful periods, pelvic and vaginal pain, fibroid uterus, pelvic organ prolapse, low libido, menopausal symptoms.

Patients like that she is approachable, thorough, and listens to their needs without judgement or feeling rushed. Whether it be during a routine exam or more urgent issue, Dr. Schaefer creates a safe environment to ensure patients feel at ease and encouraged to share all concerns they may have.

“I still recall the anxiety I felt at my first well woman exam”, she says, “It is one of the most vulnerable moments in our lives as women. With that in mind, I welcome the opportunity to meet with an adolescent or young woman for her very first exam. My goal is to diminish any worries she may have about visiting the gynecologist and establish a trusted partnership to work towards becoming the healthiest version of herself.

It makes my heart happy to help families welcome healthy babies into the world but it’s equally exciting to help women with other problems such as urine incontinence or hot flashes regain control and her confidence. I seek to serve women throughout all the seasons of their life.”

Dr. Schaefer is a graduate of UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX, which is ranked as one of the nation’s top medical schools. After graduating, she desired to both be close to family and have superb training, so she moved home to San Antonio to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Health.

She is skilled in numerous surgical procedures to meet her patients’ needs, including certification in minimally invasive techniques such as the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System to decrease pain and speed recovery time.

As a San Antonio native, Dr. Schaefer’s roots run deep. For three generations, the family business was running local barbecue joints before she decided to make delivering babies the new “family business”. When not working, Dr. Schaefer loves to spend time with her amazing husband Kerry, three adorable kiddos, and their shaggy doodle dog.
