Cervical Cancer Screening

If you’re due for a cervical cancer screening, your provider may perform a Pap smear during your annual well-woman visit. This involves collecting a small sample of cervical cells, which will be analyzed for any abnormalities. The frequency of your Pap smear depends on your age, medical history, and past results.

Imaging Services

Imaging helps providers examine internal organs and tissues with precision. At UWH of Texas, imaging supports reproductive health, bone strength, and cancer screening. Common services include:

Mammograms

Low-dose X-rays that detect tumors or changes in breast tissue before they can be felt. Both routine and diagnostic mammograms are offered.

Mammograms

Ultrasound

Uses sound waves to create images of organs and soft tissues. It is frequently used in pregnancy and to evaluate ovarian cysts, fibroids, and abnormal bleeding.

Prenatal Care

Breast MRI

Provides detailed, multi-angle imaging for patients with dense breast tissue or higher risk of breast cancer.

Bone Density Screening

Measures bone strength and mineral content to identify early signs of osteoporosis and guide preventive care.

Bone Density Testing

Laboratory Testing

Lab tests provide crucial information for monitoring overall health, diagnosing conditions, and evaluating treatment effectiveness. Common tests ordered include:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): Screens for anemia, infection, and inflammation.
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Assesses blood sugar, electrolytes, liver, and kidney function.
  • Urinalysis: Detects urinary tract infections, kidney problems, and other hidden conditions.

Additional tests may be recommended for conditions such as thyroid disorders, PCOS, menopause, fibromyalgia, and infections. Lab work supports early detection of cancer, including breast, ovarian, cervical, and uterine cancers.

STI Testing

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) can affect your health, even without noticeable symptoms. UWH of Texas provides confidential testing for STIs like:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis
  • HIV
  • Herpes
  • HPV
  • Trichomoniasis

If a test is positive, your provider explains treatment options and prevention strategies. STI testing is recommended for anyone with new or multiple partners, STI symptoms, or potential exposure. STI testing may also be part of the family planning process.
